Description
Since early times, there seems to have existed an innate need to use symbols to distinguish individuals. In Europe, by the twelfth century, this need was being met by a wholly new technique and we know that by 1127 it had arrived in England. Why? What made this system – with its ever more complex rules and regulations, a system that would eventually be termed ‘Heraldry’ – so popular, so necessary? From the London Heraldry Society, Clive Alexander and Bernard High endeavour to unravel some of the mystery and also take a look at the heraldry of the individuals associated with Copped Hall through the centuries. Teas and Coffees will be available mid-morning and in the afternoon. Attendees should bring their own packed lunch. Please bring along any heraldic insignia that you might have.
