Description

Join us to discover the grand interiors of Copped Hall through the ages at our special Evening event.

Emile de Bruijn (Assistant National Curator Decorative Arts, National Trust) will explore the importance of Chinese landscape wallpapers, putting the Copped Hall wallpaper, which was part of the fabric of the Eighteenth-century mansion, displayed in the drawing room, into a wider context. The talk will discuss the Chinese landscape painting tradition from which it sprang, how Chinese panoramic wallpaper emerged out of the commercial interaction of European and Chinese merchants and how it signified in British interiors.

Accompanying the talk, exhibitions will celebrate various other aspects of the interiors of Copped Hall. The evening will be illuminated by roaring fires and will be held on the principal floor of the mansion. A licenced bar will be available.
