STUDY DAY

Copped Hall Practical Photography Course

Date
Saturday 9 September 2023

Cost & Times

£60.00 per person. Unsuitable for Children under 16. Gates will open at 9.00am for a 9.30am start. Practical work will begin around 10.15am. The event will conclude at around 4.00pm.

Location

This event is to be held in the South Room of the Mansion, on the Ground floor, and also in the Gardens. The Mansion location is suitable for those with mobility impairments; however, the Gardens are undulating/uneven lawn surfaces with some paths on a sloping site. There is very limited access currently for wheelchair users. If you are unsure if this event is suitable for you, we would ask that you contact Peter Warne before booking.

Description

This Study Day, presented by Dr Peter Warne, will cover both Close-Up and Landscape photography. Please bring a packed lunch with you. Refreshments will be provided. Attendees should have at least a moderate experience using cameras.

The morning session will be in the South Room and concern itself with Close-Up photography. Practical work will follow a 45-minute presentation by Peter that will provide basic principles and structure for the session. Close-up “models” will be provided, but you can certainly bring along your own models if you wish.

After the lunch break, Peter will then focus on Landscape photography. The session will again begin with a 45-minute presentation. The course will then move to the Gardens where you spend the rest of the day finding landscape compositions using both planting and stone features. It is hoped that there will be time to work with lens ball photography in this session.

Both sessions will be supported by generous information packs, supplied as electronic “pdf” files, provided before the course starts. You will need to bring your own camera and a lens which can focus reasonably close. You do not have to buy a macro lens but bring one along if you already have one. If you are a Canon user, Peter has a macro lens that he can loan out. Other lenses can be anything between 24mm (or wider) and 200mm. A bridge camera is also usually suitable. Please bring a Tri-pod if you have one. A flash gun and an LED torch are optional additions to bring along. Early Booking is highly recommended as course numbers are limited.
