Description
This time, Dark Tales moves on to a yet more sinister theme: crime and punishment in Epping Forest. We’ll be taking a look at the dark doings of highwaymen and footpads and the attempts, then as now, to meet violent crime with heavy retribution.
Plans for the evening are advancing rapidly, and under consideration are the chilling story of the Mr Carey and how Copped Hall owner John Conyers helped to overcome the effects of his murder, a sinister insight into fellow travellers on a Central Line train (or it might be an 18th century stagecoach), musical soundscapes of 18th Century country house life, and much more. Once again, you’re likely to meet Lady Henrietta and the Housekeeper in person! No doubt there will be another Edgar Allan Poe tale.
Returning for the show will be Sinister Masterplan (Laura Sampson, storyteller, and Sam Enthoven, Thereminist), actor Julia Stallard, and Robin the Fog with his extraordinary tape-loop soundscapes. The Witch of Brussels, Martin and Rose, will bring their spoken word, sonic experimentations, bass, beats, and dark intonations, and on a lighter note, Brona Martin will show what the musical life of such mansions might have sounded like.
The Copped Hall bar will be open serving drinks, and a roaring log fire will warm you in the ground floor Servants’ Hall.
